Dempo SC have signed former Punjab FC midfielder Juan Mera for the rest of the season, we can exclusively reveal. Following the mutual termination of his contract with Churchill Brothers FC Goa midway through the season, the Spanish midfielder has opted to remain in Goa.
After leaving Punjab FC, Juan Mera joined I-League club Churchill Brothers Goa in the summer for the 2024/25 season. With no starts and five appearances off the bench totaling 70 minutes, the club and the player agreed to mutually part ways. Now the player has opted to join Dempo SC. An official close to the move added, “Around 3 I-League clubs expressed interest in signing Juan Mera, but the player has decided to join Dempo SC for the remainder of the season.”

Juan Mera initially arrived to India in 2019 to play for East Bengal in the I-League. After a good season, the Spanish midfielder joined Lealtad in Spain before returning to India to play for Neroca FC the following season. The next season, he joined Punjab FC and played a key part in the club’s promotion to the ISL, receiving the best midfielder of the year title. He did not get many opportunities in the ISL since Madih Talal was just outstanding. With this transfer to Dempo, Juan Mera would hope to redeem himself and demonstrate his quality once again.
Dempo SC’s season so far:

Dempo returned to the I-League this year after being demoted to the second tier nine years earlier. Despite a strong start to the season, with two victories and a draw in the first three games, they have only won one of their past six games, losing four. With Matija Babovic departing the club to join Inter Kashi, Samir Naik hopes that Juan Mera’s signing would help the team finish in a respectable place in the league.
