I don’t know how to start this, as even I didn’t expect this news, so I’ll lay it out barely first – The promising twin duo of Aimen and Azhar has just left the club via mutually agreed contract terminations, as the club announced earlier this morning.
The duo, who got promoted from the reserves, made their debut in 2023 and became two of the poster boys of the club in quick succession, thanks to their amazing performances on the pitch for the club. The twins were widely regarded to be the future of the club, and the news of their departure has surely left a gaping hole both in the squad and in the hearts of the Yellow Army. Go Well, Aimen and Azhar.
But Why?
The news of this Transfer was met with many kinds of responses, mostly being fans displaying their gratefulness towards the players for their time at the club and the fans’ disappointment towards the club, but one question remains – ‘but why?’ and we’ll get to that right now. As per the Khel Now article on the same subject, the uncertainty surrounding Indian football, along with both players seemingly not being included in the plans of the head coach, David Catala, for the upcoming season, sealed the deal for the twins to look for new pastures elsewhere.
The twins are now expected to sign for Sporting Club Delhi under Tomasz Tchorz, considering the twins’ relation with the Pole, who played a key role in their development during his time as the Head Coach of the Blasters’ reserve side.
What’s Next?
The departure of all foreign players from the club was expected as a result of the current uncertainty and the subsequent ongoing retrenchment (meaning: the reduction of costs or spending in response to economic difficulty), but the departures of key Indian players were not on anyone’s radar, to say the least.

With the current squad thinned to less than even 20 players (incl. Sreekuttan and Ajsal), either early promotion to the senior team or playing with only the current available squad is the current expectation among the fans, who’ve been expressing severe frustration in response to the latest string of departures from the club and with the possibility of relegation implementation yet to be addressed properly, the fans fear whether their club will be the frontrunners for the bottom spot and get relegated (if it’s implemented), which could lead to the club shut up shop in the worst case scenario as the relegation, as of now, is a bigger financial threat to the founding clubs than anything else.
