Kerala Blasters, to everyone’s surprise, announced the departure of Oumar Bah on Wednesday night, and in an even more surprising move, announced the signing of Senegalese Centre-Back, Ndiaye Fallou, as his replacement, just minutes later. This switcheroo has left the fans with a whole new lot of questions, and we’ll be looking to answer a few down below:
1: Who is Fallou?
Ndiaye Fallou is a 24-year-old Senegalese professional footballer who plays as a Centre-Back. Born in Leona Thiaroye, the 6’6 tall CB is known for his height, aerial strength and physical defending, and he can also contribute to building play from the back, making him a perfect fit in Catala’s system.
Only the 2nd Senegalese CB in the history of Blasters, Ndiaye started his youth career at AS Douanes, one of Senegal’s most prominent football academies, before upgrading his youth career over in Belgium, joining the youth side of highly esteemed Belgian side, K.A.A. Gent. He later went on to start his senior career in France with AC Arles in the 22-23 season, making 8 appearances for the club in the league competition.

This cameo of his in France bought him a direct ticket to Finland, as Ndiaye was spotted by Finnish top-tier side FC Haka and was signed by them ahead of the 2023 season. He quickly established himself as a starter in the Haka defense and made 22 appearances, while scoring twice for the club.
His performance at Haka was noticed by fellow league side Seinäjoen Jalkapallokerho, or SJK for short, who signed him ahead of the 2024 Veikkausliiga season. He built upon his form from the previous season at SJK, securing 23 league appearances while scoring 4 goals for the club in the process, highlighting his aerial prowess.
And finally, now, on 4th March 2026, Kerala Blasters have announced his signing, replacing Oumar Bah, who left the club on a mutual agreement.
2: Why Fallou?

Fallou is a tall, aerially strong, ball-playing CB – a profile similar to Bah, but why Fallou? What does he bring over Bah? This might be a question many might be asking after seeing the concurrent announcements by the Blasters, and we’ll try to provide you with what we think might be a reasonable explanation for the same:
Fallou can be considered as an almost upgrade over Bah in terms of Physicality and Quality of Experience. His age and previous form are an added advantage for the Blasters, who want a quick and strong fix to their defensive woes, especially after losing 3 games in a row, finding themselves threatened by relegation.
Since long paragraphs aren’t the trend, I’ll expand on and simplify the ‘why’s into 3 bullet points:
- Physicality: At 1.98m tall, Fallou brings a bigger, younger and stronger frame to the Blasters Backline over Oumar. His stats indicate a better % of total duel wins when compared to Oumar, indicating a strong physical presence.
- Quality of Experience: Fallou brings a stronger resume to the table with quality experience in both youth and senior team levels for sides from top-tier European leagues. His technical quality, in particular, thanks to his quality experience, makes him a better fit for Catala’s play of building from behind, with statistics indicating a higher % accuracy in passing, incl. long balls, when compared to Oumar.
- Long-term Planning?: As mentioned previously, Fallou is just 24 years old and brings endless possibilities to the table for the Blasters when compared to Oumar at 31.
3: What does Fallou bring to the table for the Blasters (Pros and Cons)
Pros:
- Physicality: A point previously mentioned in the answer to the previous question, Physicality is one of the biggest strengths of Fallou, who effectively uses his long reach to win the ball from the opposition and break play, making him a near-solid presence in the defensive line. His Aerial Prowess, exemplified by his goal-scoring records, also makes him a formidable presence in both boxes and with the Blasters struggling to find goals, Fallou could just be the man to aim for when in a set-piece scenario.
- Technical Ability: A decent modern CB, Fallou shows good enough technical ability for a Centre-Back, and his passing range makes him a potential first-choice CB for Head Coach David Catala. The Blasters have lacked a good, consistent distributor from the backline this season, and Fallou could be the man the men in Yellow were looking for.
- Previous Form: Fallou has shown good form and consistency in his last two clubs, earning the role of starting CB and playing the whole 90 minutes in the majority of matches in the league phase for both clubs. The Blasters’ loyalists would be expecting him to continue his run of good form with the Blasters as well as the stakes are higher this season.

Cons:
- Little experience?: This is just Fallou’s 4th season for a senior team. Despite showing consistent output in his previous seasons, the question still remains on whether Fallou will be able to share the leadership mantle of the Blasters’ defensive line, which is currently lacking a leader figure in the foreign CB department.
- Recent Absence: Fallou hasn’t played professionally in quite some time (near or over a year) due to personal and professional reasons, and this is a worrying factor for the Blasters, who would want the player to be as least rusty as possible, especially in the defensive line.
- Adaptation to Indian Conditions: Fallou’s move to India, much like the majority of the Blasters’ foreign signings this season, marks their first move outside European football and adaptation to Indian conditions, especially with the league already on the run, is an aspect that is more crucial than ever, and particularly in the case of Centre-Backs, adaptation to Indian referees is also crucial 🙂
