Bengaluru FC, who started their season with a stunning 3-2 win over Sporting Club Delhi at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in front of their home faithful, are set for another crunch fixture at home against Chennaiyin FC, who are coming off a draw in their opening game.
The match between the two sides is scheduled to kick off at 19:30 IST at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on October 17, 2026.
The two sides have already faced each other this season, having met in a pre-season friendly a couple of weeks ago, which Chennaiyin FC won 1-0.
Will the Marina Machans secure another win, or will Bengaluru FC continue their winning start to the season? Let’s take a look at the form, head-to-head record, injury news and key player battles ahead of the game.
Bengaluru FC:

Bengaluru FC began their ISL 2026/27 campaign with an early first-half goal from Borja Martinez’s magical left foot. However, they immediately surrendered the lead, conceding twice before half-time to head into the break trailing. The fans continued to push the team forward, and the Blues kept fighting, not just to find an equaliser but also to score a late winner and secure all three points.
Despite looking shaky in defence, Pep Muñoz’s side were lethal in the final third and could have scored a few more goals had it not been for Nora Fernandes’ heroics. The movement of Ryan Williams and Borja Martinez was outstanding, consistently leaving the opposition defenders confused.
Bengaluru FC will be hoping to secure another win before travelling for two tough away games.
Chennaiyin FC:

Chennaiyin FC, on the other hand, showed significant improvement from the side that finished 13th in the 2025/26 ISL season. Much of this could be attributed to the club’s new signings, while Clifford Miranda’s work on the training ground to establish the team’s structure and ball progression was clearly visible against FC Goa.
However, the issues in the final third from last season persisted, as it once again felt like they were doing everything right except putting the ball into the back of the net. Although Irfan Yadwad scored a screamer to give them the lead, Chennaiyin failed to create many other clear-cut goalscoring opportunities. Clifford Miranda insisted that the team is working to improve in this area.
Ideally, the Marina Machans will be hoping to secure at least a draw or even their first win of the season, but they will be well aware of how difficult that could be.
Head-to-Head Record:
Bengaluru FC have had the upper hand over Chennaiyin FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium since the 2017/18 ISL final, which the latter won to become two-time champions. The Blues have won every fixture between the two sides at this venue since that final defeat.
All-time H2H Record:
- Bengaluru FC wins: 11
- Chennaiyin FC wins: 4
- Draws: 3
Injury News:
Bengaluru FC have not reported any major injury concerns, with Sivasakthi being the main absentee after being left out of the ISL squad due to injury.
As for Chennaiyin FC, despite having played just one competitive game this season, injuries have begun to pile up. Glan Martins has suffered a hamstring injury and is expected to be out for a couple of weeks, while Maheshon and Vivek are also injured.
Madih Talal is still not fully fit, according to the head coach, who stressed the importance of managing the creative playmaker’s minutes.
Predicted 11:
Bengaluru FC (4-2-3-1): Gurpreet Singh; Naorem Roshan, Chinglensana Singh, Menno Koch, Shivaldo Singh; Lalremtluanga Fanai, Suresh Wangjam; Ashique Kuruniyan, Borja Martinez, Ryan Williams; Mihailo Perovic;
Chennaiyin FC (4-2-3-1): Mohammad Nawaz; Muhammed Saheef, Emmanuel Imanishimwe, Nuno Reis, Namgyal Bhutia; Ayush Chhetri, Chawngthu; Brison Fernandes, Nikola Stojanovic, Irfan Yadwad; Ramon Tanque;
Key Player Battles:
Ayush Chhetri vs Lalremtluanga Fanai

One of the most interesting battles on the pitch will be between two Indian midfielders who regularly line up alongside each other for the Indian U-23 side. Both Ayush Chhetri and Fanai are expected to play in a number-eight role, with the ability to progress the ball forward while also using their defensive capabilities to recover possession and break down attacks in the middle of the park.
While Fanai could face a greater challenge defensively, particularly if Madih Talal does not start, Ayush will certainly be tested by Borja Martinez’s movement and technical ability.
Shivaldo Singh vs Brison Fernandes

Bengaluru FC started their opening game of the season with Shivaldo Singh at right-back, although he is primarily a winger who can also play as a full-back. While he did a decent job against Aimen for much of the game, there were moments when Aimen found himself in acres of space and could potentially have scored.
Against Brison in the Chennaiyin game, Shivaldo will face another challenge. Brison is known for his inverted movement, ability to exploit spaces and dangerous shots and crosses. Shivaldo will need to be extra wary of the threat posed by the Chennaiyin winger and ensure he is not given room to operate.
Chinglesana Singh vs Ramon Tanque

Although Bengaluru FC won their opening game, they conceded twice, and the defensive partnership of Menno Koch and Chinglesana Singh looked vulnerable at times. Sporting Club Delhi made the most of this, playing several line-breaking passes throughout the first half to trouble the home side’s backline.
Ramon Tanque, who played in a free role in Chennaiyin’s opening game, will be hoping to exploit similar spaces. He will be determined to make runs behind Bengaluru FC’s backline, find room and score his first goal for the club. He is also a dangerous threat inside the box when attacking crosses, and his battle against Chinglesana Singh will be crucial in determining whether the home side can keep a rare clean sheet.
